Ružomberok lies in northern Slovakia, in the Liptov region, where the Revúca river flows into the Váh between steep mountain ridges. The map shows a town shaped by its terrain. The centre sits on a narrow strip of flatter ground, with streets pressing up the lower slopes and long forested ridges rising on every side.
The town has long been an industrial centre, with a large paper mill occupying a broad stretch of the valley. It is also the hometown of the politician and priest Andrej Hlinka. The village of Vlkolínec, a UNESCO World Heritage site with traditional log houses, is part of the municipality and lies in the hills above the town.
A Ružomberok map poster traces the meeting of the two rivers and the way the town fits into the valleys between them. Railway, main roads and water run in parallel along the valley floor, while the slopes around them stay open, so the print has a strong sense of mountains even in monochrome.
