This San Isidro lies in the State of Mexico, on the eastern side of the Valley of Mexico, where the metropolitan area of the capital meets the rising ground towards the volcanoes. On a map it appears as a close pattern of residential blocks, with main roads carrying traffic between the valley floor and the outlying towns to the east.
The area sits within the broad basin that was once covered by a system of lakes, including Lake Chalco to the south, most of which were drained over the centuries. Today the flat former lakebed is largely built over, and the peaks of Iztaccíhuatl and Popocatépetl stand to the east on clear days.
