San Po Kong is a neighbourhood in Wong Tai Sin District, in the east of Kowloon. From above, it is one of the most regular areas of the peninsula: a compact grid of rectangular blocks laid out for industry in the post-war decades, bordered by wide roads and set just north of the land that was once Kai Tak airport.
For many years San Po Kong was a busy factory district, and building heights were kept low because of the flight path into Kai Tak. Since the airport closed in 1998, many industrial buildings have been converted or replaced with offices and hotels. Nearby, Wong Tai Sin Temple and the Chi Lin Nunnery with Nan Lian Garden draw visitors from across Hong Kong.
