Ridge-top streets
The city lies on a ridge of the Watchung Mountains, and many streets curve to follow the slopes. This gives the map a flowing, irregular texture.

El mapa
Summit Map Poster & Print
Summit sits on a ridge of the Watchung Mountains in Union County, New Jersey, about twenty miles west of Manhattan. The city takes its name from this high position. From above, its streets climb and curve over uneven ground, with a compact downtown near the railway station and quieter residential streets spreading out over the hills.
The railway shaped Summit from the start: the line to New York made it a summer retreat and later a commuter city, and trains still run from the downtown station to Manhattan. On a Summit map poster, the rail line cuts through the centre, with shops and offices clustered on either side of it.
To the west, the Passaic River forms the city's boundary, winding through a wooded valley below the ridge. Parks and green spaces, including the Reeves-Reed Arboretum, add open shapes among the houses. In black and white, the curving streets, the river and the rail line create a varied, carefully balanced composition.

Rail and downtown
The railway runs through the heart of Summit, with the station and downtown beside it. On the poster it forms a strong line through the centre.
Passaic River edge
The Passaic River winds along the western boundary in a wooded valley. Its curving line frames the map and marks the base of the ridge.
