Syke is a town in the district of Diepholz in Lower Saxony, a short distance south of Bremen. It sits in the gently rising Geest country that borders the flat marshland of the Weser. On a map the town is compact and irregular. A small historic centre sits where the main roads cross, and residential streets spread outward in several directions.
The Hache, a small river, runs through the area, and its narrow green corridor shows on the map as a softer line through the built-up area. Syke also serves as a local centre for the surrounding villages. Its road network connects outward to them as well as north toward Bremen, and patches of woodland at the edges break up the pattern of fields.
