Villabate lies just southeast of Palermo, so close that on a map its streets almost merge into the city's outer districts. It is part of the wide plain around Palermo, historically known as the Conca d'Oro for its citrus groves. Mountains rise inland, and the Tyrrhenian coast runs nearby, framing the town on two sides.
The town itself is compact and dense. A main road runs through it, lined with tightly packed blocks and narrow side streets typical of Sicilian towns. Where the buildings stop, the pattern opens into what remains of fields and gardens before the slopes begin. Railway lines and major roads toward eastern Sicily cross the surrounding area.
