Wanguru is a town in Kirinyaga County, Kenya, in the lowlands south of Mount Kenya. It serves as the main centre of the Mwea Irrigation Scheme, one of the country's most important rice-growing areas, and that role defines what you see on the map.
Around the town, the landscape is divided into long, narrow paddy plots fed by canals and channels, creating a strongly geometric pattern unlike almost any other place in Kenya. The town itself is compact, with markets, mills and housing grouped along a few main roads that lead out into the fields.
