Woodmere is a hamlet on the South Shore of Long Island in Nassau County. It is one of the communities known together as the Five Towns. On the map it has a residential texture, with winding lanes and cul-de-sacs rather than a strict grid. Large lots and mature trees soften the pattern, and the Long Island Rail Road line cuts a straight diagonal through the curving streets.
To the south, the land breaks into marsh, inlets and narrow channels before it reaches the open water of the back bays. That edge is the most striking part of the map.
