Zongo Map Poster
Zongo stands on the south bank of the Ubangi river, in the far north of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Bangui, the capital of the Central African Republic, lies directly across the water. The map therefore shows two towns separated only by the river, one of the more unusual border settings in Central Africa.
The Ubangi is the dominant shape on the poster, a broad band along the edge of town, with rocks and rapids breaking the surface near this point. Zongo's streets run back from the bank in a loose, low-density pattern, and tracks lead south and east into farmland and forest. Boats crossing the river connect the two sides.
A Zongo map poster frames a place defined by the water and by the city opposite. It is a simple, spacious composition in which the river does most of the work and the town appears as a fine network along the shore. Printed large, the contrast between the open band of water and the lines of the streets carries the whole design.
