Rabati Castle
The walled fortress complex on the hill above the river forms a large, distinct shape on the map. Its ramparts enclose courtyards, a church and a mosque.

关于地图
Akhaltsikhe Map Poster & Print
Akhaltsikhe lies in the south of Georgia, in a basin ringed by mountains, close to the border with Turkey. The Potskhovi River runs through the town and splits it in two. The old quarter sits on the hill with Rabati Castle, and the newer town spreads across the other bank. On a map the river and the hill give the plan an unusual, asymmetrical shape.
The name means new castle. The fortress of Rabati has stood here for centuries, held first by the Georgian Jaqeli princes and later under Ottoman rule until the nineteenth century. A large restoration in the early 2010s rebuilt its walls, church and domed mosque as one complex. Today the town is the administrative centre of Samtskhe-Javakheti.
An Akhaltsikhe map poster works well with the fortress near the centre, so the compact streets of the old quarter, the river and the grid of the newer town all appear together. Winding lanes sit beside regular Soviet-era blocks. The mix reflects a town where Georgian, Armenian, Jewish and Ottoman communities have all left their mark.

Potskhovi River
The river runs through the town, separating the historic hillside quarter from the newer districts and giving the plan a clear dividing line.
Two towns in one
The irregular lanes of the old quarter contrast with the straighter streets and larger blocks across the river, two very different street patterns side by side.

为什么选 Akhaltsikhe
一张有意义的地图
Akhaltsikhe is hung by Georgian families from Samtskhe-Javakheti, by Armenian communities with ties to the region, and by travellers who have walked through Rabati and remember the view across the river. A map holds the whole town, fortress included, in one frame.
You can personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line, perhaps with the date of a visit or a family name. Choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand, then download 300 DPI PNG and PDF files for $9 or order a matte print.
