The Tigris
The river runs through the middle of the city and divides it into two banks. It gives the map a strong, flowing central line that the street grid follows closely.

关于地图
Al ‘Amārah Map Poster & Print
Al ‘Amārah grew up on the Tigris in the south-east of Iraq, and the river organises the whole map. The city spreads along both banks, joined by a series of bridges. The older quarters sit closest to the water, and newer districts extend outward across flat, low-lying land in a more regular grid.
The town was established in the second half of the nineteenth century, originally as an Ottoman military post, and it developed as a trading centre for the surrounding farmland and marsh communities. Near the city, water channels branch away from the Tigris toward the south. They feed the wetlands that lie across the lower part of Maysan province.
Those marshes are among the best-known wetland landscapes in the Middle East, and they give the region much of its character. An Al ‘Amārah map poster focuses on the city itself: the curve of the river, the bridges that stitch the two halves together and the streets laid across the plain. The result is a quiet, balanced composition with water running through its centre.

River bridges
Several bridges link the two sides of the city. They appear as short, precise crossings that punctuate the river and tie the older and newer districts together.
Branching channels
Close to the city, secondary waterways split from the Tigris and head south toward the marshes. They add thin, meandering lines to the edge of the composition.

为什么选 Al ‘Amārah
一张有意义的地图
For people from Maysan living elsewhere in Iraq or abroad, a map of the city is a direct link to the river and the streets they know. It also appeals to anyone interested in the landscape of the Tigris and the southern marshlands.
The title, subtitle and coordinates line can all be personalised, so the poster can carry a family name, a meaningful date or a line in your own words. Choose from five styles, Classic black and white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand, depending on the tone you want.
