Ālūr is a town in Kanyakumari district, at the southern tip of Tamil Nadu, in the countryside around Nagercoil. The land here is green and well-watered, with paddy fields, coconut groves and tanks, and the Western Ghats rising not far to the north and west.
From above, the town does not form a single compact grid. Streets and lanes run along roads and between fields, merging with neighbouring settlements, and many plots are shaded by trees. The map shows a fine, irregular network rather than a clear urban edge.
