Aqaba Map Poster & Print
Aqaba sits at the northern tip of the Gulf of Aqaba, on Jordan's short stretch of Red Sea coastline. From above, the city spreads in a broad band between the shore and the granite mountains that rise sharply behind it. The border with Israel and the town of Eilat lie just to the west, and the coast runs south toward Saudi Arabia.
The old town centre is near the Mamluk-era Aqaba Fort, which was captured in 1917 during the Arab Revolt, an episode later made famous by the film Lawrence of Arabia. Today the city is Jordan's main port, and the coral reefs along its southern coast make it a well-known destination for diving and snorkelling.
An Aqaba map poster shows the city pressed between sea and rock. The coastline runs in a sweeping line, the port facilities stretch south along the water, and the street grid climbs gradually toward the mountains.
