关于地图
Bankass Map Poster & Print
Bankass lies in the Mopti Region of central Mali, on the wide Séno plain below the Bandiagara Escarpment. On a map the town is a compact cluster of streets and compounds set in open, sandy country. Tracks lead out in several directions toward the villages that are scattered across the plain. The plain has few natural lines, so the roads carry the structure of the image.
The town is one of the settlements on the plain side of Dogon country. That region is known for villages built along and below the escarpment, which as a whole is listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. Bankass serves as a market and administrative centre for the surrounding district. Paths and roads link it with the cliffs to the north and the farmland around it.
A Bankass map poster is a spare image: a knot of streets in the centre and a thin web of tracks spreading into empty space. That sparseness is its strength in black and white. For people with family ties to the region, or anyone who has travelled through Dogon country, it offers a quiet, honest picture of a town defined by its plain.

Radiating tracks
Roads and tracks lead outward like spokes, connecting Bankass with the villages of the plain and with the escarpment country to the north.
Compound pattern
Inside the town, the plan is shaped by walled family compounds rather than long straight streets. This gives the centre a distinctive, cellular texture.

为什么选 Bankass
一张有意义的地图
A map like this is most meaningful to people who know the town: families from the Mopti Region, people living abroad, aid workers, researchers or travellers who passed through on the way to the escarpment. The simple shape makes a calm, graphic print.
The title, subtitle and coordinates line can be personalised, for example with a family name or the year you left. Five styles are available: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. Sand suits the plain particularly well.
