Bègles borders Bordeaux to the south and faces the Garonne along its eastern side. The map is dense and close-knit. Narrow streets of low terraced houses fill the older neighbourhoods, and larger blocks and industrial sites sit along the river and the railways. The river's wide, smooth curve forms the commune's longest and clearest edge.
Railway lines heading south from Bordeaux cut through the commune, and ring roads and bridges connect it to the rest of the metropolitan area. Near the river, the street pattern opens up into former industrial land and green areas. The contrast between tight residential blocks and larger open parcels gives the map a strong rhythm.
Bègles is widely known for rugby, and the club that later became Union Bordeaux-Bègles has its roots here.
