From above, the town is a tight cluster of streets and lanes, with open fields reaching right up to its edges. There are no dramatic hills or coastlines here. The main railway between Raipur and Bilaspur passes through, and much of the layout relates to it. There is a station area, roads running parallel to the tracks, and commercial streets branching off toward the market and the residential quarters.
