Cascina Map Poster & Print
Cascina lies in the lower Arno valley, between Pisa and Florence, on land so flat that its roads can run straight for kilometres. The historic centre follows a clear rectangular plan, with a principal street crossing it lengthwise and lined by porticoes. Around this orderly core, later districts, industrial zones and scattered frazioni spread across the plain in a looser, more open pattern.
The Arno runs just to the north of the town, its wide bends and embankments forming the most expressive curve on the map. Drainage ditches and country lanes divide the surrounding farmland into long strips, a pattern that reflects centuries of working wet ground. A Cascina map poster shows these straight lines meeting the river's sweep, with the compact historic centre sitting at their heart.
The town gave its name to the Battle of Cascina of 1364 between Florence and Pisa, the subject of a famous lost mural design by Michelangelo for the Palazzo Vecchio. In more recent times Cascina became known for its furniture makers, and the workshops and showrooms along its roads are part of the landscape visible on any detailed map.
