Castaños is a town in the Mexican state of Coahuila, located just southeast of the city of Monclova and part of its wider urban area. It lies in a broad valley of the northern Mexican desert, with mountain ranges rising on either side. The town is small, but its position on the main routes through the region gives it a clear place on the map.
The street layout is largely regular, with blocks arranged in a grid around a central area and newer neighbourhoods expanding toward Monclova. Major highways pass nearby, forming straight lines across the flat valley floor. Beyond the town, the land becomes open and dry, with the ridges of the surrounding sierras setting a firm edge to the landscape.
