The Hooghly bend
The river widens dramatically here as it approaches the sea. It fills a large part of the frame, leaving a strong area of open space against the built-up land.

关于地图
Diamond Harbour Map Poster & Print
Diamond Harbour lies on the eastern bank of the Hooghly River in South 24 Parganas, some distance south of Kolkata. Here the river is already very wide as it turns toward its estuary and the Bay of Bengal. The town has long been a popular day trip for people from the city who want open water and a riverside promenade.
During British rule it served as an anchorage for East India Company ships, and the remains of an old fort still stand near the water. The town is the end of a suburban railway line from Kolkata, which helps explain its popularity with weekend visitors. On the map, the long riverfront road and the broad expanse of water dominate everything.
A Diamond Harbour map poster captures a place defined by scale, with the modest grid of town streets on one side and the huge sweep of the Hooghly on the other. In black and white the river becomes a bold, open shape, and the town's roads and railway run up to meet it at the water's edge.

Riverfront road
A road runs along the bank, following the curve of the river. It serves as the town's promenade and is the most recognisable line on the map.
Rail terminus
The railway from Kolkata ends in Diamond Harbour, and its track can be traced into the town. It is a straight line cutting through the looser street pattern.
