Kamenz Map Poster
Kamenz is a town in Saxony, in the region of Upper Lusatia between Dresden and the Polish border. It sits on the Schwarze Elster river, and its historic centre lies on higher ground above the valley. From above, the old town is a compact oval of streets around the market square, with church towers marking its edges.
The town is best known as the birthplace of Gotthold Ephraim Lessing, the Enlightenment dramatist and critic, and a museum dedicated to him is here. To the east rises the Hutberg, a wooded hill with a park known for its rhododendrons. The newer districts spread out around the old centre in a looser pattern.
