Junction centre
The town gathers around the point where its main roads meet. That gives the map a clear focal point, and the tracks spread out from it into the farmland.

关于地图
Kinoi Map Poster & Print
Kinoi is a town in Machakos County, in the Ukambani uplands south-east of Nairobi. The land here rises and falls in low hills, and it is drier than the highlands further west. Seen from above there is no compact grid. There is a small centre where roads come together, and around it homesteads and farm plots spread across the slopes.
This kind of map reads more like a drawing of the land than a city plan. Earth roads and footpaths follow ridgelines and go around steep ground. Seasonal streams leave thin lines in the valleys. The built-up core is a small, denser cluster around the junction, and the plots and fences thin out gradually into the countryside.
A Kinoi map poster suits people who know the place well: the market day, the walk up to a relative's house, the road that leads towards Machakos town. The minimalist style removes colour and labels and keeps the pattern of routes and settlement. That pattern is what defines a rural Kenyan town much more than any single building does.

Hill country roads
Paths and minor roads follow the ridges and valleys of the Ukambani uplands, so the lines on the map curve with the terrain rather than following a plan.
Scattered homesteads
Outside the centre, buildings sit in their own plots at a distance from one another. The result is a fine, even speckle, which is typical of farming areas in Machakos County.

为什么选 Kinoi
一张有意义的地图
For anyone from Kinoi or with family roots there, this map is a way to keep home close when living in Nairobi or abroad. It is modest and personal, and it gives a small place the same attention usually reserved for capitals.
Add a family name, a date or the coordinates in the title lines, then choose from five styles, including Sand and Paper, which suit warm interiors. The $9 digital download includes all six print sizes as 300 DPI PNG and PDF files.
