The straight shoreline
The Arabian Sea coast runs in a long, almost unbroken line along the western edge. It gives the whole composition a clear boundary and a strong vertical axis.

关于地图
Koyilandy Map Poster & Print
Koyilandy sits on the Malabar Coast in the Kozhikode district of Kerala, and from above the town is organised by the sea. The shoreline runs almost straight from north to south, and the town stretches along it instead of spreading inland. A main road follows the coast a short distance back from the water, and most streets either run beside it or branch off it towards the beach.
The land between the highway and the shore is closely built. Short lanes branch off toward the sand, and the grid loosens into scattered plots as it moves inland. Here the map becomes a softer weave of paths and small roads running between coconut groves, paddy land and low laterite ground. Water channels and creeks cut through in places, and on the map they read as thin breaks among the lines.
A Koyilandy map poster brings that coastal logic onto paper. The sea stays empty on one side, and the town forms a narrow, busy band beside it. The area is linked to the old trading ports of the Malabar Coast, and Kappad beach, where Vasco da Gama is traditionally said to have come ashore in 1498, lies a short way south. The fishing harbour keeps the town facing the water.

Road beside the coast
The main coastal highway runs parallel to the sea through the town. It works like a spine, and most of the smaller streets attach to it.
Lanes into green land
Moving inland, the dense centre breaks into loose, winding lanes between groves and fields, the pattern of dispersed settlement typical of rural Kerala.

为什么选 Koyilandy
一张有意义的地图
Koyilandy is the kind of place people carry with them: a home town, a family house near the coast, a stretch of Malabar shore visited again and again. A map of it keeps the sense of that line between land and sea without needing a photograph.
You can personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line, for example with a family name or a date that matters. Choose from Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand, then download the $9 HD files or order a printed poster with an optional wooden frame.
