Kulathummal lies in Thiruvananthapuram District in southern Kerala, inland from the state capital and toward the Western Ghats. The landscape is typical of this part of Kerala: gently undulating ground, low laterite ridges and narrow valleys, with houses scattered among coconut palms and other trees rather than packed into dense blocks.
From above, the roads do not form a grid. Instead, they follow ridges and wind between valleys, branching into lanes that lead to individual houses and small clusters.
