Kuzhithurai lies in the far south of Tamil Nadu, in Kanyakumari district, a few kilometres from the Kerala border. The map is dense and green. Houses spread out among coconut groves and small plots rather than sitting in tight blocks, and narrow lanes branch off a few main roads in every direction.
The strongest line on the map is the river, the Thamirabarani of Kanyakumari district, which curves past the town on its way to the Arabian Sea. The railway between Thiruvananthapuram and Kanyakumari runs close by on its own gentle arc, and the main road links Kuzhithurai with neighbouring Marthandam, so the two places almost merge into one strip of settlement.
