Perret's grid
The reconstructed centre is laid out on a strict modular grid, with long, straight avenues meeting at right angles, a rare sight in a French city.

关于地图
Le Havre Map Poster & Print
Le Havre sits where the Seine meets the English Channel, and few French cities have such a clear structure on a map. The city centre was almost entirely destroyed in 1944 and rebuilt under the architect Auguste Perret. It follows a rigorous orthogonal grid of wide avenues. Beside it lie large rectangular dock basins, and above it rises the older upper town on the cliffs.
Perret's reconstruction was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2005, recognised as an outstanding example of postwar planning in reinforced concrete. Its tall landmark is the Church of Saint Joseph, whose tower is visible from far out at sea. Le Havre is also where Claude Monet painted Impression, Sunrise, the work that gave Impressionism its name.
A Le Havre map poster is a study in contrasts: the straight lines of the rebuilt centre, the geometric harbour and the long beachfront. Across the estuary runs the line of the Pont de Normandie. It suits admirers of modernist architecture, sailors, and anyone who has watched the ships come in.

Port basins
East of the centre, large rectangular docks and quays extend toward the estuary, forming bold geometric shapes that dominate this side of the map.
Upper town on the cliff
North of the centre, the street pattern changes to winding roads climbing the escarpment, where older neighbourhoods survived the war.
