River mouth
The river meets the Arabian Sea at the edge of town, drawing a curving line that is the most recognisable feature of any map of Mahē.

关于地图
Mahē Map Poster & Print
Mahē is a small town on the Malabar coast. On land it is surrounded by Kerala, but it is administered as part of the Union Territory of Puducherry. It was a French settlement until the 1950s, one of several scattered outposts France held in India, and traces of that past remain in its administration and some of its public buildings.
The town sits at the mouth of the river that shares its name, where it enters the Arabian Sea. On the map the river forms a clear edge, and the coastline runs north to south beside a close network of lanes and roads that fill the small territory. Because the town is so compact, it is easy to fit the whole of it into one frame.
A Mahē map poster shows how small and self-contained the place is. The river, the shoreline and the national highway passing through give the composition its structure, and the closely built streets fill the space in between. It is a distinctive subject for anyone interested in colonial history or with family ties to this stretch of coast.

Malabar shoreline
A straight stretch of coast runs along the western side. It is a firm boundary that contrasts with the irregular lanes and plots inland.
Enclave boundary
Although Kerala surrounds it on land, Mahē belongs to Puducherry. On the map the town blends into its neighbours, a reminder that the old colonial border lives on in history rather than in the streets.

为什么选 Mahē
一张有意义的地图
Mahē's unusual status as a piece of Puducherry on the Kerala coast gives it a particular place in people's memories. For anyone who grew up here or has family roots in the town, the map is a compact portrait of a place that rarely appears on a map of its own.
