Mariāhu is a town in Jaunpur district in eastern Uttar Pradesh, on the broad alluvial plain of the Ganges basin. The land is almost perfectly flat, so roads and fields shape the map rather than hills or coastlines. Several routes meet at the town. The densest cluster of streets forms around that junction, where most of the town's commercial life gathers.
Around the centre the pattern loosens quickly. Lanes lead out to neighbouring villages, and the land between them is divided into small fields, orchards and ponds, which show as open shapes on the map. This mix of a compact town and wide farmland is typical of the eastern Gangetic plain, one of the most intensively farmed regions of India.
