Saimaa shoreline
The lake wraps the town with long, indented bays and scattered islands. Its pale water shapes break up the street pattern and give the map a strongly organic edge.

关于地图
Mikkeli Map Poster & Print
Mikkeli sits on the northwestern waters of Lake Saimaa, Finland's largest lake system, and water shapes its map on almost every side. The centre follows a clear rectangular grid, typical of Finnish towns planned in the nineteenth century. Beyond it the streets loosen into residential districts that bend around bays, inlets and wooded ridges. Seen from above, the balance of land and water is the defining image.
The town has a notable place in Finnish history. During the Second World War, Mikkeli housed the headquarters of the Finnish Defence Forces under Marshal Mannerheim, and a museum in the former headquarters recalls that period. Naisvuori, a hill near the centre, carries an observation tower. The market square and the cathedral anchor the grid, and the harbour opens toward the lake routes of Savo.
A Mikkeli map poster shows how carefully a lake town fits into its landscape. Bays cut into the shoreline, small islands dot the water, and the tidy centre contrasts with the irregular edges of forest and lake. In a single black-and-white frame, it is both orderly and wild, much like the region around it.

Rectangular centre
The planned core around the market square and cathedral forms a neat grid of blocks. It is the densest, most geometric part of the map.
Naisvuori hill
A wooded rise close to the centre, topped by an observation tower. Here streets curve around the slope instead of following the grid.
