The Yangtze
The river runs across the map as a broad band. It sets the orientation of the whole composition and gives the town a clear edge on one side.

关于地图
Nantuo Map Poster & Print
Nantuo is a town in Chongqing municipality, east of the city of Fuling, in the hilly country the Yangtze cuts through on its way downstream. As in much of this region, the terrain shapes everything on the map. Built-up areas follow the flatter ground near the water, and roads bend around slopes instead of running in straight lines.
From above, the river is the defining element. It is wide, heavy on the page and gently curving, with the town's streets arranged along one bank. Away from the river, the pattern loosens into roads that climb and wind between fields and hills. A few clusters of denser building appear where routes meet.
A Nantuo map poster suits anyone with a personal link to this stretch of the Yangtze: a hometown, a family origin or a place passed through on the river. The design leaves out labels and colour, so what remains is the relationship between water, slope and street. That relationship is what gives towns in the Chongqing hills their particular look.

Hill-shaped roads
Roads leading inland follow the contours instead of a grid. They loop and switch direction in a way that is typical of settlements in the Chongqing uplands.
Riverbank settlement
The densest streets sit on the flatter land near the water. On the page they form a compact built-up strip between river and hills.
