The nine squares
The 1638 plan of nine equal squares remains at the heart of downtown. The central square is the Green, and on the poster the whole grid stands out immediately.

关于地图
New Haven Map Poster & Print
New Haven was laid out in 1638 as a grid of nine squares, and that plan still sits at the centre of the city. The middle square is the New Haven Green, with Yale University's courtyards and quadrangles filling the squares around it. Beyond the original grid, streets fan out in several directions, bent by the harbour, the Mill and Quinnipiac rivers, and the edges of the hills.
Two traprock ridges frame the city: East Rock to the northeast and West Rock to the northwest, both now largely parkland. To the south, the harbour opens onto Long Island Sound, and Interstates 95 and 91 meet near the waterfront. New Haven is also known for its thin, coal-fired pizza, a tradition with its own loyal debates.
A New Haven map poster shows the nine squares clearly, a rare surviving colonial plan still at the core of a working city. Around it are the university campus, the curve of the harbour and the long green shapes of the ridges. It is a map that carries a lot of American history in a small area.

East and West Rock
Two traprock ridges rise north of the centre. Their parkland appears as large open shapes, with roads winding around their bases.
The harbour
New Haven Harbor opens south to Long Island Sound. Its shoreline, wharves and the meeting of two interstates give the lower half of the map its outline.

为什么选 New Haven
一张有意义的地图
New Haven maps are popular with Yale graduates, hospital staff and families who have lived in its neighbourhoods for generations. The nine squares make it one of the most recognisable street plans in New England, and a natural graduation or moving-away gift.
Add a class year, a name or a date to the title and subtitle, adjust the coordinates line, and choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Order a printed poster with an optional wooden frame, or download the $9 HD files and print locally.
