Ongole Map Poster & Print
Ongole is the headquarters of Prakasam district, on the flat coastal plain a short distance inland from the Bay of Bengal. Two long transport lines shape its map: the national highway between Chennai and Kolkata, and the main railway along India's east coast. The town has grown along and between these corridors around a dense older core at the centre.
The name is known far beyond India because of the Ongole breed of cattle, large white animals with a distinctive hump that have been raised here for generations. The breed was exported most notably to Brazil, where its descendants became the Nelore. Around the town, fields, water tanks and irrigation channels fill the flat land.
An Ongole map poster reads as a dense, fine-grained centre wrapped by straighter arterial roads and then by open farmland. In black and white the small lanes create a rich texture. The highway and rail line give a clear sense of direction, running roughly north-east to south-west across the frame.
