Paris Map Poster & Print
Paris is the county seat of Lamar County in northeast Texas, close to the Red River and the Oklahoma line. On a map, the town is organised around a central downtown plaza. Streets run out from it in a mostly regular grid, which loosens into curving residential roads and larger commercial parcels towards the edges.
A loop highway circles the town and gives the plan a clear outer ring, with the older grid sitting neatly inside it. Rail lines and highways leave the ring towards Dallas, Texarkana and Oklahoma. Lakes and wooded creeks sit in the farmland beyond. The balance of centre, ring and spokes gives the town an unusually legible shape.
Paris is known for two things well beyond Texas. The first is a replica Eiffel Tower topped with a red cowboy hat. The second is its name, which Wim Wenders borrowed for his 1984 film. Loop highway ring
A loop highway circles the town and draws a strong, nearly continuous outline around the older neighbourhoods. On a poster this reads almost like a frame inside the frame.
Radiating routes
Highways and rail lines leave the ring in several directions, towards Dallas, Texarkana and the Red River. The spokes give the map a sense of movement and connection.
