Railway junction
The town grew around a rail junction, and the tracks still form the strongest lines on the map, cutting across the grid in long diagonals.

关于地图
Pokrovsk Map Poster & Print
Pokrovsk lies in the west of Ukraine's Donetsk region, on the open steppe. On a map the town has a largely regular street grid, organised around a railway junction and extended by districts built for the coal mines nearby. Beyond the edges, straight roads and field boundaries run across level land.
Founded in the late nineteenth century as a railway station settlement, the town was known for decades as Krasnoarmiisk before its historical name, Pokrovsk, was restored in 2016. Its economy depended on coal mining and the railway. In recent years the town has been severely affected by the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
A Pokrovsk map poster records the town's plan as a lasting reference: the rail lines, the grid of residential streets, and the roads leading out across the steppe. For many people with ties to the town, a map is one way of holding on to a place they knew.

Regular street grid
Residential districts follow a mostly rectilinear plan, giving the town a clear, ordered structure typical of settlements planned around industry.
Open steppe
Around the town, the level Donetsk steppe is divided into long straight fields and roads, drawing a sparse frame around the built-up area.
