Prenzlau Map Poster & Print
Prenzlau is the district town of the Uckermark in the far north-east of Brandenburg. It lies at the northern end of the Unteruckersee, where the Uecker river continues north towards the Szczecin Lagoon. On the map, the lake stretches away to the south as a long pale shape, while the town gathers on rising ground above its shore.
The medieval layout is still easy to read. Sections of the town wall survive together with several gates and towers, and they outline the historic core on the street plan. At its centre stands St Mary's Church, one of the major works of north German brick Gothic, rebuilt after heavy damage in 1945. Much of the old town was destroyed then, and postwar blocks now fill parts of the walled area.
A Prenzlau map poster brings together water, walls and open country. Around the town, the Uckermark spreads out in wide fields and smaller lakes, one of the most thinly populated landscapes in Germany. Roads fan out across that open ground, while the lake and river form a long north–south axis that gives the composition its structure and direction.
