Progreso Map Poster
Progreso sits on the flat northern edge of the Yucatán Peninsula, the nearest port to Mérida, which lies roughly 35 kilometres inland. On a map the town is a neat grid pressed against a long, almost perfectly straight shoreline on the Gulf of Mexico. Behind it, low wetlands and coastal lagoons spread in soft, irregular shapes, so the town reads as a thin strip between water on both sides.
The most striking line on the map is the pier. The port's deep-water wharf runs several kilometres straight out into the shallow Gulf, because the seabed here slopes so gently that ships cannot come close to shore. Drawn in black ink, it becomes a single thread stretching off the edge of the town, far longer than any street in the grid behind it.
A Progreso map poster captures that contrast between the orderly blocks, the beachfront promenade and the open water beyond. The coast road runs east and west along the sand towards smaller beach settlements, and the highway to Mérida leaves the grid heading south across the marshes. It is a simple, legible composition, well suited to minimalist black-and-white printing.

Lagoons behind town
South of the streets, coastal wetlands and lagoons break up the land into loose, organic shapes, separating the port from the rest of the peninsula.
