Colbert's grid
The seventeenth-century plan is a regular grid of straight streets and rectangular blocks, one of the clearest planned layouts of any town in France.

关于地图
Rochefort Map Poster & Print
Rochefort lies on the Charente River a few kilometres from the Atlantic, in the Charente-Maritime department. It was founded in 1666 as a royal naval arsenal under Colbert, and its plan shows this clearly. A rigorous grid of straight streets and rectangular blocks sits on a bend of the river, with the former dockyards and slipways along the water's edge.
The Corderie Royale, the royal ropeworks, stretches along the riverbank for more than three hundred metres, a single long building that is easy to pick out on the map. The replica frigate Hermione was built in the old dry dock here and sailed to America in 2015. Downstream, the Martrou transporter bridge spans the Charente.
A Rochefort map poster suits the city's geometric character, drawing the grid, the winding river and the marshes beyond in precise lines. It appeals to lovers of maritime history, to visitors to the Charente coast, and to people who know Rochefort as the home town of the writer Pierre Loti.

Corderie Royale
The long royal ropeworks runs parallel to the river among gardens. Its single elongated shape marks the heart of the old arsenal.
Charente meanders
The river loops through the surrounding marshland on its way to the sea, and its curves soften the edges of an otherwise strictly geometric plan.
