Sabadell Map Poster & Print
Sabadell stands on the Vallès plain north of Barcelona, a short distance inland from the coastal range. On a map the old centre appears as a tight, irregular core of narrow streets, surrounded by broader nineteenth and twentieth century extensions laid out in more regular blocks as the city grew around its mills.
The eastern edge is defined by the valley of the Ripoll river, a green, winding corridor that contrasts with the dense streets above it. Motorways and rail lines skirt the city and cut through its outer districts, and a large park area and the airport fields open gaps in the fabric toward the north and west.
Sabadell was one of the great textile centres of Catalonia, and together with neighbouring Terrassa helped earn the region comparisons with industrial Manchester. Banco Sabadell was founded here in 1881 to finance local wool businesses.
