Samālūţ Map Poster & Print
Samālūţ lies in Minya Governorate in Upper Egypt, on the western bank of the Nile, north of Minya city. The town forms a long band between the river and the irrigated farmland of the valley. On the map, its streets run roughly parallel to the Nile. A canal and a railway line also run north to south along the valley.
The valley here is narrow, and its shape is easy to read from above. There is a band of green, cultivated land on the western side and a strip of water in the middle. On the eastern bank, pale limestone cliffs come right up to the river. The contrast between farmland, river and desert cliff is clear even at a small scale.
On a cliff across the river is the monastery of Gabal al-Tayr, associated with the Holy Family's journey through Egypt and visited by many pilgrims. A Samālūţ map poster shows the town in its place in the valley, with river, canal and railway side by side.
