Savar Map Poster & Print
Savar lies northwest of Dhaka in central Bangladesh, on slightly raised ground above the low river plains of the delta. Once a quiet market town, it has grown rapidly with the capital, and much of its land is now filled with factories, housing and busy roads. The Bangshi River flows past on its western side, winding through fields and wetlands.
The main highway from Dhaka toward Aricha runs through the town and shapes its layout, with commercial areas and garment factories strung along it. The Dhaka Export Processing Zone forms a large, regular block on the map, while residential streets fill the land between in dense, irregular patterns. To the north, the campus of Jahangirnagar University adds open space, lakes and trees.
Savar is home to the National Martyrs' Memorial, the monument to those who died in the 1971 Liberation War, set in landscaped grounds beside the highway.
