Settūr is a town in southern Tamil Nadu, set on the plains east of the Western Ghats in the area around Rajapalayam. On a map it appears as a compact settlement where streets gather around a central core and roads lead out toward neighbouring towns and villages. The surrounding land is agricultural, divided into fields that stretch toward the hills.
The defining feature of the wider landscape is the edge of the mountains. To the west the Western Ghats rise steeply from the plain, and on a broader view their slopes form a dark band beside the flat farmland. Between hills and town the ground is marked by irrigation tanks, the shallow reservoirs typical of this part of Tamil Nadu, which appear as open shapes among the fields.
Settūr is small and not widely known outside the region, which is part of its appeal as a map.
