Valley streets
The town follows the lie of the land, with streets lined up along valley floors. The result is a long, irregular shape rather than a compact block.

关于地图
Shizhi Map Poster & Print
Shizhi is a town in Chongqing municipality, in southwest China, where the land rarely lies flat. The Chongqing region is made of folded hills and deep valleys drained by tributaries of the Yangtze. Towns here have to fit themselves into whatever level ground the terrain allows.
On the map, that gives Shizhi an elongated, irregular footprint. Streets follow valley floors and contour lines instead of forming a grid, and roads switch back as they climb out of town. The slopes around it are cut into farm terraces and patches of woodland, and small hamlets are scattered across the hillsides, linked by winding lanes.
A Shizhi map poster shows how a town adapts to the ground beneath it. The streets bend and branch like the terrain itself, which gives the print an organic, almost hand-drawn quality. For people with roots in rural Chongqing, it looks like the hills they know.

Winding roads
Roads leaving Shizhi climb and turn to handle the slopes. On the poster their curves add movement to the whole composition.
Hillside settlements
Small clusters of houses sit across the surrounding hills, connected by narrow lanes. They scatter fine detail across the edges of the map.
