Planned grid
The town's streets and blocks follow a regular Soviet-era plan. They create a tidy, geometric centre amid the taiga.

关于地图
Sovetskiy Map Poster & Print
Sovetskiy is in the west of Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug, deep in the forested lowlands east of the Urals. It was established in the Soviet period as a timber settlement, and the map shows it. There is a planned grid of streets and apartment blocks, a railway running alongside, and then forest and wetland extending in almost every direction.
Industrial areas such as timber yards and depots occupy large plots at the edges of town, linked by rail sidings. The surrounding land is flat and patched with bogs, lakes and small rivers. Roads leave the town in long straight lines before disappearing into the trees.
A Sovetskiy map poster shows how a planned town sits within a vast natural landscape. The compact, regular core is surrounded by an irregular pattern of water and wetland, and that tension gives the design its character.

Rail and yards
Railway lines and sidings lead into timber and industrial areas. They reflect the purpose for which the town was built.
Forest and bog
Around the town, small lakes, marshes and rivers form a loose, organic pattern. They soften every edge of the poster.
