Subic Map Poster
Subic is a municipality in Zambales on the western coast of Luzon, lying along the northern shore of Subic Bay. On a map the town's streets gather in a strip between the water and the hills of the Zambales range, with the main highway following the shoreline and smaller roads branching inland along river valleys toward barangays on higher ground.
Subic Bay is a deep, sheltered natural harbour, and for most of the twentieth century it hosted a major United States naval base. After the base closed in 1992, the area became the Subic Bay Freeport Zone, which extends across neighbouring Olongapo and parts of Subic, with port facilities, industry and resorts along the coast.
The bay's outline gives the map much of its strength: a long curving shoreline, headlands and coves, and open water beyond.
