Thornton-Cleveleys lies on the Fylde coast of Lancashire, between Blackpool to the south and Fleetwood to the north. From above, it is a town with two edges. On the west, Cleveleys meets the Irish Sea along a straight sea wall and promenade. On the east, Thornton reaches towards the muddy, winding channels of the River Wyre estuary.
Between them, the map fills with the curving roads and closes of twentieth-century housing, crossed by the tramway that links Blackpool with Fleetwood along the coast. Inland, Marsh Mill, a tall brick windmill built in the 1790s, still stands in Thornton and remains one of the best preserved in the region.

The Blackpool–Fleetwood tram line runs north–south through Cleveleys, drawing a steady line through the street pattern parallel to the shore.
