Turkistan Map Poster & Print
Turkistan sits on the flat steppe of southern Kazakhstan, and from above its shape is simple and open. The old town gathers around the citadel and the Mausoleum of Khoja Ahmed Yasawi, while wide straight roads lead outward across level ground. Irrigation channels and fields surround the city, and the land offers little to bend its geometry.
Since Turkistan became the regional capital in 2018, a new administrative district has been built with broad avenues and large public spaces, and on the map it reads as a planned, spacious area set apart from the older streets. The contrast between the historic core and this new layout gives the poster much of its character.
The Mausoleum of Khoja Ahmed Yasawi, commissioned by Timur in the late fourteenth century, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a major place of pilgrimage. A Turkistan map poster shows a city where an ancient spiritual centre and a new regional capital sit side by side on the open steppe.
