Usangi Map Poster & Print
Usangi lies in the North Pare Mountains in the Kilimanjaro Region of northern Tanzania, above the plains that separate the Pare range from Mount Kilimanjaro. The town sits in hilly, well-watered country, and on a map its layout is shaped almost entirely by relief: roads bend around spurs and valleys instead of forming a regular grid.
The Pare Mountains are cooler and greener than the dry lowlands below, and farming reaches across much of the slopes. From above, this gives Usangi a scattered, textured appearance, with homes and small plots spreading along the roads and the lines of ridges. Streams descend through the valleys, adding thin lines that run downhill toward the plains.
