Uxbridge is a township in Durham Region, north-east of Toronto, and the town at its centre is compact. From above, a short main street forms the spine, with residential streets branching off in a mix of older straight blocks and newer curving crescents. Beyond the edges, concession roads lay a broad rectangular grid over the countryside.
The town sits on the Oak Ridges Moraine, a band of rolling hills, forests and wetlands that shapes the landscape around it. On a map, that shows up as irregular green areas, small streams and roads that bend around the terrain. Uxbridge calls itself the Trail Capital of Canada, and trails thread through the woods and along old rail corridors.
