关于地图
Waal Map Poster & Print
Waal lies in the Somali Region of eastern Ethiopia, in a broad landscape of dry plains and scrubland that covers much of the region. Settlements here are often small and far apart, connected by long roads and tracks. On a map Waal appears as a modest cluster of streets surrounded by open land.
Herding is central to the region's rural life, with camels, goats, sheep and cattle. In places, seasonal watercourses cross the land and stay dry for much of the year. The roads and tracks follow the routes between water, grazing and markets, which gives the map its basic shape.
A Waal map poster is necessarily spare. It shows a small cluster at the centre, a few lines reaching outward and a great deal of empty space. That emptiness is part of what the map says. It describes a place defined by distance and by the wide, open land around it.

Long approach roads
Roads and tracks run outward across open country toward other towns. They are the few strong lines that give the map its structure.
Open plains
Wide stretches of unbuilt land surround the town. They leave generous empty space around the settlement and give the poster a quiet composition.

为什么选 Waal
一张有意义的地图
A map of Waal is a personal choice, for people from the Somali Region who live elsewhere, or for anyone who has lived or worked there and wants a record of a place that few maps pay attention to.
You can personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line with a name or a date. Choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Buy the HD files for $9 or order a printed poster on matte paper.
