Canal network
Irrigation channels cross the valley floor in long, measured lines. They divide the land into regular fields and give the map its fine, rhythmic texture.

关于地图
Yovon Map Poster & Print
Yovon is a town in Khatlon Province in southwestern Tajikistan, south of Dushanbe. It sits in a broad valley between ranges of dry foothills, and from above the contrast is striking. A green patchwork of irrigated fields and orchards surrounds the town, and brown, eroded slopes rise sharply where the cultivated land ends.
Farming in the valley depends on irrigation canals, a system greatly expanded in the Soviet period. Cotton and other crops grow across the plain. The town itself has a largely Soviet-era layout, with straight streets, broad blocks and low-rise housing organised around a main road that runs along the valley.
A Yovon map poster shows the order that water has imposed on the land. Canals appear as fine straight or gently curving lines, fields form a dense grid, and the town sits in the middle of that pattern. Where irrigation stops, the map opens into empty space, a reminder of the dry country all around.

Soviet-era grid
The town's main streets follow a simple planned layout, with long parallel roads and rectangular blocks set out along the line of the valley.
Foothill edges
Dry, uncultivated hills frame the valley. On the map they appear as open space, which sharpens the outline of the irrigated land and the town within it.

一张有意义的地图
For people from Yovon living in Dushanbe, in Russia or further afield, the town's streets and canals are a deeply personal landscape. A map on the wall keeps the shape of home close and makes it easy to show others where you come from.
The title, subtitle and coordinates line can all be changed, so you can add a family name, a year or a short phrase. Choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand, then download 300 DPI files in six print sizes for $9.
