Aba grew as a trading town in southeastern Nigeria, and the map reads like one. Streets pack tightly around the old commercial core, then loosen into residential blocks that spread across flat land. The Aba River threads through the city, a thin curving line that the dense street pattern bends around rather than crosses in any tidy way.
The city is widely known for workshops and markets, with Ariaria International Market among the largest in West Africa.
